BEHAVIOUR ON & OFF THE COURT

The objective of the Kidzplay Netball league is to introduce players to the basic concepts of netball while providing an enjoyable experience for all involved. Just as importantly, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and friendly environment for players, coaches, umpires, parents, and spectators.

Kidzplay Netball has a Zero Tolerance Policy towards unacceptable behaviour at all venues. This applies to everyone involved in our competition, including players, teams, umpires, coaches, managers, volunteers, spectators, and any other individuals participating in activities held at Kidzplay Netball facilities.

All participants are expected to demonstrate and promote fair play, respect, and sportsmanship at all times.

Acceptable Behaviour

  • Show respect for others at all times
  • Be fair and honest
  • Encourage and support all players
  • Support players positively while allowing them to hear the umpire's whistle and instructions
  • Accept and respect umpire decisions without argument
  • Prioritise safety for yourself and others
  • Take responsibility for your own actions
  • Be a positive role model
  • Promote sportsmanship both on and off the court, regardless of whether your team wins or loses

Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Parent or spectator pressure from the sideline
  • Excessive or disruptive sideline behaviour that interferes with players or umpires
  • Intimidation of players, officials, umpires, or spectators

Our Reminder

At Kidzplay, children play netball to learn, grow, and have fun. Please, for the sake of the players: relax, enjoy the game, and support all children with positive feedback, praise, and encouragement. Your support makes a big difference and is greatly appreciated.

Positive encouragement from the sideline is welcomed and appreciated; however, please be mindful of noise levels during games. Our competition is designed to support the development of both players and umpires, and excessive sideline noise can make it difficult for players to hear the umpire's whistle and instructions.

Many of our umpires are young people who are still developing their confidence and skills. A respectful sideline environment helps them manage the game effectively and creates the best learning experience for everyone involved.

At Kidzplay, we believe that prevention is better than cure. By keeping sideline support positive and appropriate, we can help ensure that players, coaches, umpires, and supporters all enjoy the game and contribute to a positive sporting experience.

The main motivation for young people to play sports is to have fun (76%), followed by hanging out with family or friends (44%). The fact is that many teens see sport as another way to have a cracking good time. And if the fun goes, because the pressure and time demands ratchet up, they’ll likely follow.  ~ Sport New Zealand
